Ninety-three degrees and a 15 mph wind on the streets of Boston — and Edna Kiplagat ran straight through it at 5:14 per mile. The 45-year-old took the Masters Women title by an emphatic 1:46 margin, never wavering from 9th among all women through the first 8K before surging to 8th on that final stretch with the 7th-fastest closing split in the entire women's field. In a race where the heat was a genuine adversary for 1,201 finishers, that late push was a statement.

Lanni Marchant was a class apart from the rest of the field, too. The 41-year-old ran 34:15 at 5:31/mi, holding 17th among all women from 5K onward and finishing with the 12th-fastest women's closing split. The gap she left to 3rd — nearly five minutes — tells you how completely the top two separated themselves from the pack.

Shannon Kinney (38:55) and Karolyn Bowley (40:59) filled out the podium and fourth place, respectively, with Kinney's 30th-fastest women's 5K–8K split helping her hold off the field. Bowley, at 55, is the standout age story here: she outran everyone behind her to go 4th, with Sally Dupere of Newton (41:22) slipping from 36th among women at 5K to 43rd by the finish — a fade that cost her in the closing miles. Amanda Watters (41:45) and Kimberly Tillotson (42:40) rounded out the top seven, with the rest of the top 20 clustered tightly between 7:05 and 7:25 per mile — a testament to how the conditions leveled the field deep into the standings.
