Noah Reid ran this race from the front. He moved from 2nd among men after the opening stretch to 1st by the Out & Back→Lap 1 segment — and that was that. His 6:23/mi average held firm across the foggy Sacramento course, and his fastest split on that early segment set the tone. From checkpoint two onward, no one came close. His winning margin of 18 minutes and 36 seconds over Inouye was decisive.

The more compelling subplot was the battle for 2nd. Spencer Fluetsch looked like the man to watch early, leading the men's field at the first checkpoint with the 2nd-fastest split on Out & Back→Lap 1. But the pace caught up with him. Eric Inouye, meanwhile, was quietly climbing — from 6th among men at the start to 5th, then 4th, then a strong Lap 3→Lap 4 segment (2nd-fastest among the men) that sealed his runner-up finish. Fluetsch held on for 3rd in 3:11:16, about 5:38 behind Inouye — a gap that tells the story of who was running toward the finish and who was running away from it.

Jason Yoder (4th, 3:34:08) and Max Mccabe (5th, 4:32:22) rounded out the competitive field, with Yoder posting the 7th-fastest men's split on the final Lap 4→Finish stretch. And then there is Isaiah Ochoa — 13 years old, from San Jose, crossing the marathon finish line in 6:22:36. Whatever brought him to the start line in Sacramento on a 50-degree foggy morning, he finished it.
