Men's 10K: Nofziger Dominates on Summit Ave

Sam Nofziger came to Saint Paul and made a statement. The 26-year-old from Fort Worth led the men's field from wire to wire — holding 1st at every checkpoint — and finished in 32:07 at 5:10/mi, a pace the rest of the 829-man field simply could not match. His margin over runner-up Daniel Peters was 1:55, and he sealed it with the fastest closing split of anyone in the men's race from 3M to the finish line at the Minnesota State Capitol.

Behind him, the real drama played out between Peters and Paul Muturi. Muturi, a 40-year-old from Albertville, surged through the middle stretch with the fastest men's split from 1M to 3M, moving into 2nd at that checkpoint. But Peters — a Minneapolis local racing down a course he knows well — came back with the second-fastest closing split in the men's field, retaking 2nd in the final miles and crossing in 34:02 to Muturi's 34:17. It was a well-earned catch-up by Peters, who had also lined up in the 5K this weekend and finished 7th there — a genuine double-race weekend.

The youth story of the morning belonged to Sameer Gupta. The 17-year-old from Big Lake ran 35:51 — backed by the third-fastest closing split among the men — to claim 4th and hold off Steven Deckert (36:01, 5:48/mi) of Crystal. Zeke Green (36:13) and Steven Gogela (36:37) rounded out the top seven before the field spread out through Dan Church (37:50) and into a tightly packed group from 38:24 to 39:12 that saw nine more men finish across that 48-second window.
