Her 1M-to-finish split was the fastest among all 1,335 women in the field, and she finished a commanding 3:13 ahead of the runner-up. There was no chasing her down.

The real drama unfolded behind her. Genevieve MacLachlan, just 12 years old, held 2nd place throughout and finished there in 20:14, a remarkable result for someone her age in a field of over 1,300. Melissa Lamers (30, Maple Grove) was the one applying pressure, running the 2nd-fastest closing split in the women's race to close to within 8 seconds of MacLachlan at 20:22. It wasn't quite enough, but Lamers earned the final podium spot convincingly.

The battle for 4th was the tightest of the day. Elizabeth Tafesse entered the closing mile in 5th but ran the 3rd-fastest women's split from 1M to the finish, overtaking Catherine Williams — herself only 12 years old — to finish in 20:37, just 2 seconds ahead of Williams' 20:39. Two seconds and a position change decided it, with Tafesse's closing kick making the difference.

Further back, the depth of the women's field was on full display.
