The 20-year-old from Kapsait sat patiently in 6th place among women from the opening 5K all the way through 35K, biding her time while others set the early pace. Then she struck. Her 5K–10K split was the 2nd-fastest among all women in the field, a sign of the engine she was carrying — and when the race's decisive moment came in the closing kilometers, she moved from 6th to 1st in a single dramatic surge to claim the win.

The most jaw-dropping subplot of the women's race, though, belonged to Kendra Adams and Jessica Ventura. Adams, a 20-year-old from Chicago, was sitting 2,100th among women at the 5K mark — deep in the pack. By 35K she had climbed to 1,339th, running a steady, controlled race. Then something clicked. She blazed home to finish 2nd overall among women. Ventura, 25, from Markham, traced a nearly identical arc: 2,933rd at 5K, 1,606th at 35K, and then a scorching finish that landed her 3rd. Both women ran the 10K–15K segment among the faster half of the women's field — Adams posting the 899th-fastest women's split on that stretch, Ventura the 790th — but it was their relentless late-race momentum that truly told the story.

Behind them, Roza Dereje (4th) and Shure Demise (5th) ran disciplined, front-pack races throughout, tracking near the top of the women's field from the gun. Florence Kiplagat, the 30-year-old from Iten, finished 8th in a field that stretched across 20,639 finishers — every one of them earning their medal through Chicago's cold, wet, and windy conditions.
