The real drama unfolded in the battle for second and third. Gwen Fuertes, 41, from Oakland and Shawn Jackson, 46, from nearby Frisco ran strikingly similar races to the eye, but they got there very differently. Jackson was the stronger early mover — she ran the 328th-fastest women's split on the 5K–10K stretch and climbed as high as 311th among women at that checkpoint. But the back half told a different story: she faded steadily, sliding to 614th among women by the finish. Shirley Lam, 48, took 4th in 2:09:42, while Bess Dickson, 55, delivered one of the day's most compelling storylines on the way to 5th in 2:11:12. Dickson was deep in the women's field — 1,439th — at the first split, but she ran herself steadily into contention, posting a 1,052nd-fastest women's split on the 12.5K–15K stretch and finishing 1,197th among women. That kind of sustained, progressive effort across 13.1 miles is its own reward. Dorothy Smith (6th, 2:13:20) and Rachel Betancourt (7th, 2:14:37) rounded out a tight mid-pack, with 1,563 Masters Women finishing across the board — a massive, accomplished field on the streets of Dallas.
