Behind Joy, the real drama unfolded in a tight three-man contest for the podium. Jared Sindt of Auburn, CA — racing essentially on home turf given his proximity to the Sierra — took 2nd in 1:43:21. Patrick Mugg, making the trip from Latham, NY, was right on his heels in 1:44:02, just 41 seconds adrift. Gary Lo of El Cerrito finished 4th at 1:45:04, meaning places 2 through 4 were separated by a total of 1:43 — a genuine battle all the way to the line. Ryan Mcguire (5th, 1:50:49) and Noah Pitts (6th, 1:54:34) completed the front half of the field, Pitts running on familiar ground as a South Lake Tahoe local.
