Cameron Smith came to the Broken Arrow Ascent with unfinished business. After finishing 2nd here in a prior edition, the Crested Butte, CO runner made his move where it mattered most — the KT 22→Finish segment — posting the fastest closing split among the men and crossing in 38:09. At over 7,500 feet of typical elevation, with the course topping out near 8,845 ft, that kind of sustained pace demands real mountain legs. Smith had them.

Behind him, the race's most compelling subplot played out in those final miles. Casey Campbell (Bend, OR) ran the 2nd-fastest closing split in the field and used it to leapfrog Meikael Beaudoin-Rousseau, who had held 3rd through the earlier stages. Campbell finished 3rd in 38:56; Beaudoin-Rousseau faded to 4th in 39:06 — a 10-second gap that tells the story of who ran the closing stretch harder. Christian Allen held 2nd throughout, his 38:29 strong enough to resist the late surge from Campbell despite a slower closing split.
