Chris Grauch, 50, from Nederland, Colorado, put together one of the more authoritative age-group performances of the day. Running at 5:58 per mile on a cool, damp Sacramento morning — 56°F with a light rain and 7 mph wind — he steadily moved through the men's field, climbing from 321st among men at the first checkpoint all the way to 279th by the finish. That kind of sustained forward momentum across 26.2 miles is a statement, and his 2:36:22 left no doubt at the top of the M50-54 standings.

Gamini Sugathadasa of Las Vegas held second place comfortably at 2:40:38 (6:08/mi), a gap of just over four minutes to Grauch that never really closed after the early miles. His finishing kick was genuine — he posted the 266th-fastest split in the field on the 40K-to-finish segment, showing he still had legs when it mattered.

The real drama was a few places back. Solomon Yohannes (53, Santa Clarita) and Stephen Johnson (51, San Diego) ran nearly the entire race in close proximity, separated by just 25 seconds at the line — 2:46:12 to 2:46:37. Yohannes had the stronger 35K–40K segment, while Johnson's best relative work came on the 30K–35K stretch. Neither could shake the other, and Yohannes held on for 3rd by the narrowest of margins.

Li Yi (5th, 2:49:02) and Mauricio Terrazas (6th, 2:49:50) rounded out the top six within a tight 48-second window, while Mark Strause (7th, 2:50:05) was just 15 seconds further back. In a field of 492, the depth through the top 20 — all finishing under 3:00 — made M50-54 one of the more competitive age groups on the course.
