• Jacqueline Gaughan closed in 2:24:40 — just 12 seconds back — after briefly slipping to 3rd at the 10K mark before reclaiming 2nd and holding it to the line.
• Stephanie Bruce, 40, ran 2:28:42 for 3rd, posting the 2nd-fastest women's split on the 30K–35K stretch — the strongest late-race leg in the entire top ten.
• Annie Heffernan was the field's biggest mover, climbing from 10th at the first checkpoint all the way to 5th at the finish in 2:30:26.

Calli Hauger-Thackery of Flagstaff put on a masterclass in front-running. She held 1st among the women through every single checkpoint — 5K, 10K, 15K, 20K, 25K, 30K, and the finish — and backed it up with the fastest women's split on the 5K–10K segment. At 5:31/mi for 26.2 miles on a mild Sacramento morning, this was a performance with no soft stretches.

Gaughan made it interesting. The 25-year-old from Boston briefly dropped to 3rd at 10K before reasserting herself into 2nd by the halfway point and never looking back. She finished in 2:24:40 — 12 seconds behind Hauger-Thackery and earned that gap with the fastest women's split of the 25K–30K segment, the race's traditional proving ground. Twelve seconds over a marathon is a sliver, but the places were never in doubt.

Stephanie Bruce deserves her own sentence: at 40, she ran 2:28:42 to finish 3rd, and she did it with genuine late-race strength — 2nd-fastest women's split from 30K to 35K, a stretch where many fields begin to fracture. Annmarie Tuxbury (4th, 2:30:04) had the 2nd-fastest women's split on the 10K–15K leg and was methodical throughout, while Heffernan's charge from 10th to 5th gave the back half of the race its most compelling subplot. Behind the top five, places 9 through 11 — Hyland, Gracey, and Zarina — all finished within 8 seconds of each other at 2:33:45–2:33:59, a tight cluster that likely came down to the final mile.
