Scott Ickes set the tone from the gun and never let up. Thomas Shanabruch (1:16:28, 5:50/mi) kept Ickes honest through the middle miles, tracking him at 32nd–34th among the men's field before a strong 15K-to-finish leg — the 33rd-fastest men's split on that stretch — helped him lock up second.
