Men's Race: Kyle King Reclaims the Marine Corps Marathon Title

• King wins in 2:18:50 — the fastest men's finish at this race since his own 2:19:19 in 2022, and a full 6:16 ahead of his 2024 winning time of 2:25:06.

Kyle King knows this course, and this course knows him. The Dumfries, VA native — who won here in 2022 and again in 2024 — made it three titles, and this time with his fastest Marine Corps Marathon yet. He was nowhere near the front early, sitting 9th among men through the first checkpoint, but the race was never truly out of reach. At 21K–25K he posted the fastest men's split of that segment, and that was the moment the race broke open. From 5th to 1st in a single stretch, King never looked back, crossing in 2:18:50 at a 5:18/mi clip — a performance that stands as the fastest men's winning time in the editions we have on record.

The early story belonged to Wojciech Kopec, who charged to the men's lead with the fastest men's 5K–10K split in the field and held that position through the halfway point and beyond. Geoffrey Kipchumba was right there with him — 2nd-fastest men's split on that same early segment — and sat 2nd through 20K before gradually fading to 5th (2:24:47). Kopec held on admirably, finishing 2nd in 2:23:07 at 5:28/mi. Michael Schmidt was steady throughout, never cracking the top two but never fading either, and his 3rd-fastest men's split on 30K–35K helped him lock up 3rd in 2:23:45.

The battle for the rest of the top ten was fierce across a cold morning. Daniel Soltys (4th, 2:24:30) was a standout mover — he ran 7th here in 2024 in 2:29:52 and shaved over five minutes off that, posting the 3rd-fastest men's 10K–15K split along the way. Kyle Smith (6th, 2:24:54) was another returnee with unfinished business, having finished 3rd in 2024. Zachary Fenton and Brett Brady — both from Pensacola — finished 7th (2:25:16) and 8th (2:26:18), while USAF Academy teammates Elijah Wilcox (9th, 2:26:19) and Ian Webb (10th, 2:27:41) rounded out a compelling top ten at The People's Marathon — the largest no-prize-money marathon in the world, organized by the U.S. Marine Corps.
