Women's 10 Mile: Kampf Owns the Twin Cities Course

Heather Kampf, the 35-year-old Minneapolis native, was in a class of her own on Sunday morning. Her 54:17 — averaging 5:26 per mile across 10 miles through the parkways and neighborhoods of Minneapolis-Saint Paul — put nearly five full minutes between her and the second-place finisher. She held the lead wire-to-wire and then turned up the heat in the back half, posting the fastest women's closing split from 5M to the finish. On a cool, humid October morning with barely a breath of wind, conditions were as close to perfect as the race weekend offers, and Kampf made full use of them on home turf.

Behind her, the race for the podium was a genuine firefight. Lauren Chucko (Edina, MN) held second in 59:13 at 5:55/mi, with Nikki Paradis of Alexandria pressing hard — Paradis ran the 2nd-fastest closing split among the women and finished just six seconds back in 59:19. Then came a Denver contingent that made a statement in the second half: Maria Eastman, 24, charged from 8th place at the midpoint all the way to 4th with the 3rd-fastest closing split, crossing in 1:00:09. Her older sister Molly, 26, mirrored that surge — moving from 7th to 5th in 1:00:14. Those two Eastmans gained more ground in the back half than almost anyone in the field.

The racing didn't stop there. Kassidy Manning (1:00:15) rounded out a top-six separated by just six seconds, and Ashlie Greeno of St. Paul checked in 7th at 1:00:59. Further back, Sandra McClellan — at 44, the eldest of the top finishers — claimed 11th in 1:01:55 at 6:12/mi, a standout result among a top-20 that was dominated by runners in their mid-to-late 20s and early 30s. All told, 5,398 women crossed the finish line winding through this scenic point-to-point course, making for one of the largest women's fields in Twin Cities 10 Mile history.
