She sat in 1st from the opening mile, posted the fastest women's split on the 1M–3M segment at a 6:32/mi clip, and crossed the line in 40:34 — more than two minutes clear of the field. On a warm October morning along Summit Avenue (69°F, 76% humidity), that kind of sustained pace was a statement.

Behind her, the real drama was Mindy Merchlewitz and Jennifer Mehta trading blows for the podium. Merchlewitz, 49, from Woodbury, was rock-steady in 2nd the entire race, finishing in 42:45 at 6:53/mi — a remarkable effort at her age against a competitive women's field of 1,271. Mehta, 43, was the mover: buried in 8th at the first checkpoint, she put together the 3rd-fastest split on the 1M–3M stretch to vault into 3rd, then held her ground all the way to the Capitol steps in 42:56. Notably, Mehta had already competed in the women's 5K earlier in the weekend, where she placed 8th — making her podium here a genuine two-race weekend to remember.

The battle for 4th and 5th played out in the back half. Jessica Brennan (St. Paul, MN) ran a controlled race to finish 4th in 43:23, posting the 5th-fastest 3M–Finish split. Vivian Johnson, 27, was the late charger — she was as far back as 14th at the first checkpoint before reeling off the 3rd-fastest closing split in the women's race to grab 5th in 43:27. Mackinzee Miest, 23, rounded out the top six in 43:36, just nine seconds behind Johnson.
