Rocket City Half Marathon M0-14: Caesar runs away while four boys sprint to the wire

• Andy Caesar wins in 1:29:49 (6:51/mi), finishing more than 24 minutes clear of the rest of the M0-14 field.
• Three-way battle for 2nd–4th: Cooper Hargett (1:54:27), Vincent Schreiber (1:54:27), and Will Flusche (1:54:28) were separated by a single second across 3rd, 4th, and 5th place.
• Charlie Reynolds claimed 2nd in 1:54:19, just 8 seconds ahead of that chasing trio.
• Aaron Davis, age 12, was the youngest finisher in the group, crossing in 2:50:23 — the only athlete in the field under 13.

Andy Caesar, 14, from Cumming, GA, turned this into a solo time trial from the gun. His 6:51/mi average produced a 1:29:49 that left the rest of the M0-14 field more than 24 minutes behind — a margin that speaks for itself on a frigid December morning in Huntsville, with temperatures sitting at 29°F and a 16 mph wind cutting across the course. Caesar also posted the 33rd-fastest split among men on the 6.8M-to-finish stretch, a strong showing in a much larger pool.

Behind him, the race for 2nd through 5th was an entirely different story. Charlie Reynolds of Huntsville crossed in 1:54:19 at 8:43/mi to lock up 2nd place. Then came one of the tightest finishes of the day anywhere on the course: Cooper Hargett, Vincent Schreiber, and Will Flusche — all running 8:44/mi — landed in 3rd, 4th, and 5th within a single second of each other. Schreiber and Flusche each ran the 6.8M-to-finish leg faster than Hargett (161st- and 162nd-fastest men's splits on that segment vs. Hargett's 163rd), meaning Hargett had built a sliver of a cushion earlier in the race that the other two nearly — but not quite — erased.

Finn Doty (1:57:10) and Keenan Casey (1:57:29) rounded out the top seven, separated by 19 seconds. Michael Zhang finished 8th in 2:17:33, and then Cristian Cruz, Abel Wright, and 12-year-old Aaron Davis closed out the field, with Davis completing his half marathon in 2:50:23 at 12:60/mi — no small feat for the youngest competitor in the group on one of the colder race mornings Huntsville has seen.
