Rocket City Half Marathon M30-34: Garnett Dominates in the Cold

At 29°F with a 16 mph wind cutting through Huntsville, the conditions rewarded the bold. Hunter Garnett was exactly that. The 33-year-old from Birmingham posted a 6:07/mi average and spent the second half of the race moving forward, climbing from 11th to 8th among men on the 6.8-mile-to-finish segment. That late surge — the 10th-fastest split on that stretch among men — sealed a commanding M30-34 victory in 1:20:15.

Behind him, Adam Tremonte (1:21:38, 6:14/mi) and Jackson Feezell (1:22:35, 6:18/mi) traded places in the standings as the race wore on. Tremonte edged back slightly, slipping one spot among men over the closing miles, while Feezell faded more noticeably — dropping five spots in the men's field from 8th to 13th. The result: a podium separated by just 2:20 from first to third, but with Garnett clearly in control throughout the back half.

The real chasm on the leaderboard came between 3rd and 4th. Feezell's 1:22:35 and Josh Tomlin's 1:28:32 are nearly six minutes apart — a gap that dwarfs every other step in the top ten. Tomlin (4th, 6:45/mi) held his ground steadily, maintaining 27th among men both before and after the 6.8-mile mark. Branson Teachey (5th, 1:31:44) and Thomas Farias (6th, 1:33:33) continued to build out a deep M30-34 field that stretched all the way to 91 finishers braving the winter chill.
