Elite Men: Sawe wins a sub-two-hour slugfest

• The lead changed hands repeatedly: Kejelcha led early, Jacob Kiplimo (3rd, 2:00:29) hit the front mid-race, then Sawe struck between 25K and 30K with the fastest split on that stretch
• Amos Kipruto ran the fastest 20K→Half split in the field on his way to 4th in 2:01:39
• Tamirat Tola (5th, 2:02:59) picked off a place late, moving from 6th to 5th in the closing stages

This was a three-way war at the front, fought at 4:34 per mile into a 14 mph wind. Kejelcha controlled the opening, leading through the first two checkpoints and throwing down the fastest 10K→15K split among the elite men. Kiplimo answered with the quickest 5K→10K split of anyone and briefly seized the lead at halfway — but the decisive blow came from Sawe, who had been lurking in 3rd and 4th before ripping the fastest 25K→30K split in the field to take command.

Even then it wasn't settled. Kejelcha wrestled the lead back one more time before Sawe re-passed him for good, crossing in 1:59:31 with Kejelcha 11 seconds adrift. Two men under two hours in the same race, on an overcast, breezy London day — extraordinary racing. Kiplimo, having spent his ammunition early, held 3rd from 25K onward and still stopped the clock at 2:00:29.

Behind the podium, Kipruto ran a metronomic race — 4th at nearly every checkpoint — for 2:01:39, while Tola's patient 4:41/mi effort earned him 5th ahead of Deresa Geleta (6th, 2:03:24). Geoffrey Kamworor took 8th in 2:05:39, and the British contingent stacked up tightly: Peter Lynch 9th in 2:06:09, Mahamed Mahamed 10th in 2:06:15, and Patrick Dever 11th in 2:06:18 — just nine seconds covering the three. Joshua Cheptegei finished 12th in 2:06:40 in a 30-man elite field where the pointy end rewrote what a marathon Sunday can look like.
