M35-39 10K: Barnett Dominates in Fresno

• Joey Barnett won the M35-39 group in 35:48 (5:46/mi), posting the 3rd-fastest split from mile 1 to the finish among all women — a blistering pace that left the rest of the age group far behind.
• Ryan Shin ran the final stretch as one of the stronger closers, climbing from 17th to 12th among men to claim 2nd in M35-39 at 46:11 (7:26/mi).
• Richard Condoian finished 3rd at 47:03 (7:34/mi), though he faded slightly over the back half, dropping from 13th to 16th among men.
• The gap from 1st to 2nd — 10 minutes 23 seconds — was the defining story of the race; from 2nd onward, the field was tightly bunched, with 11 finishers separated by just over 12 minutes.

Joey Barnett made this one a solo time trial from the gun. Running a 5:46/mi average across the full 10K, the 35-year-old from San Francisco held the top spot among men wire-to-wire and posted a split from mile 1 to the finish that ranked 3rd-fastest in the entire field. No one in the M35-39 group came close to threatening him — his nearest challenger, Ryan Shin, finished more than ten minutes back.

Shin (46:11) and Richard Condoian (47:03) locked up 2nd and 3rd, with just 52 seconds between them. Shin was the stronger finisher of the two, climbing from 17th to 12th among men over the final stretch, while Condoian moved the other direction — entering that segment 13th among men and slipping to 16th by the tape. Sergio Moreno Jr. (4th, 49:07) and David Quenzer (5th, 49:43) rounded out the top five, with Quenzer actually the sharper closer of that pair, moving from 31st to 22nd among men on the back half.

Behind the top five, the M35-39 field spread across a wide range of finishing times. David Maes was 6th at 51:30, Anthony Casciaro 7th at 54:09, and then a cluster of runners — Chris White (56:36), Blake Hovsepian (56:51), and Jason Showalter (57:58) — filled out 8th through 10th. Eight more finishers completed the 28-man group, capping a solid afternoon of racing in Fresno.
