American River 50 Miler 10-Mile: Delaney surges late to claim F50-59

• Amy Delaney, 52, wins in 1:58:10 (11:49/mi), the only F50-59 finisher under two hours — and posted the 4th-fastest women's split on the Last Gasp→Finish segment to seal it.
• Janelle Weiner closes 82 seconds back in 2nd (1:59:32), herself running the 6th-fastest women's Last Gasp→Finish split — two racers charging hard to the line.
• Leah Cox made the biggest move of the day, climbing from 36th to 15th among women across the race to take 4th in F50-59 at 2:11:19.
• Bridget Martinez ran the opposite arc — 9th among women early, fading to 20th by the finish — still good for 5th in F50-59 at 2:15:59.

Under clear skies and 73°F warmth on the American River trails, Amy Delaney ran a race that built beautifully. She sat 25th among women through the early miles, moved to 8th by Rattlesnake Bar, and crested the day's most demanding stretch — Last Gasp to the finish — with the 4th-fastest women's split on that segment. Her 1:58:10 was the only sub-two-hour effort in the F50-59 group, a margin of 1:22 over the runner who pushed her hardest.

That runner was Janelle Weiner, 50, of Folsom. Weiner tracked a nearly parallel trajectory — 24th among women early, up to 7th by Rattlesnake Bar, holding 7th to the line — and she too found another gear on Last Gasp, posting the 6th-fastest women's split there. Her 1:59:32 finish was a genuine charge, just not quite enough to catch Delaney. Sue Compton, also 50 and racing on home turf in Auburn, rounded out the podium at 2:06:50, having run the 11th-fastest women's split on the Rattlesnake Bar→Last Gasp stretch.

The most dramatic arc in the group belonged to Leah Cox, 54. She was 36th among women at the first checkpoint, climbed to 20th, and kept pressing to finish 15th among women and 4th in F50-59 at 2:11:19 — a relentless, progressive effort across all 10 miles. At the back of the field, Karen Henry, 53, brought it home in 3:32:16 to complete all 19 F50-59 finishers on a warm Auburn afternoon.
