Behind him, the most compelling storyline belonged to Jake Simkin. The 20-year-old from El Dorado Hills started conservatively, sitting 33rd among men through the early checkpoints, then systematically picked off runners to finish 22nd among men and 2nd in the age group in 9:59:39 — the only M20-29 finisher to crack ten hours besides Taylor.
