The M45-49 race at Berlin 2025 produced one of the tightest podiums in the field. Strandby ran a measured, progressive race — his position among men improved steadily from the halfway point onward, and he was clicking off 5:42-per-mile pace across the full 26.2 miles in 71°F heat with 85% humidity. That consistency proved decisive. Paridaens and Kovermann were right on his heels the entire way, and all three crossed inside 2:30 — a genuine benchmark in any conditions, let alone a muggy Berlin morning.

Below the podium, the story was Browne's charge. Starting deep in the men's field, he worked his way through hundreds of runners over the course of the race, posting one of the stronger late-segment splits in the group on the 35K–40K stretch. He ultimately ran 2:32:26 at 5:49/mi — good for 4th in M45-49 — but Magalela, who had been running more evenly from the gun, had already banked enough time to hold him off by 25 seconds at 5th.

The gap from the podium to 6th place tells its own story: Simon Smith's 2:35:56 in 7th and Maksym Kovtun's 2:37:05 in 6th sit nearly six minutes behind Strandby's winning time, meaning the top three were in a race of their own.
