Broken Arrow 5 Mile Women: Hamilton leads a Tahoe-Truckee sweep of the podium

The locals owned this one. In a women's field of 34, the podium went entirely to athletes from the Tahoe basin — Tahoe City's Jessica Hamilton out front in 1:11:49 at 14:22/mi, with Truckee's Sarah Knapp chasing hard in 1:13:09. On a course living between 6,220 and 7,191 feet, with a 17 mph wind pushing across the mountain, home-turf familiarity with thin air looked like a real asset: the top three all call this corner of the Sierra home.

The best redemption story belongs to Kelly Fuson. In 2024 she was 9th among the women here in 1:41:54; this year she came back and carved a full 24 minutes off that time, crossing 3rd in 1:17:54 at 15:35/mi. That's not a tweak — that's a transformation, and it turned last year's mid-pack finish into a podium.

Behind the podium, Boulder's Chelsea Reicher took 4th in 1:24:31 and Jennifer Germann of Felton claimed 5th in 1:28:24. The tightest scrap in the top ten came between Olga Camina (8th, 1:42:53) and Tonja Del Gatto (9th, 1:43:28), separated by just 35 seconds after nearly two hours of racing. Further back, Ashley Ereso (19th, 2:20:17) held off a mere 11-second gap to Kari Mcmahon ahead of her at 18th (2:20:06) — proof the racing stayed honest deep into the field.

And a word for Kathleen Parsons: at 68 years old, the Ramona, CA runner finished 13th of the 34 women in 2:02:33, beating 21 finishers — many of them decades younger — on a high-altitude mountain course. That's the kind of result that should make everyone behind her take notes.
