Gibson Kelley, 41, from Arlington, TN, turned in a commanding performance, crossing in 1:18:14 at a 15:39/mi average pace to claim the F40-49 title. On a course that climbs and descends through thin air above 6,700 feet, that kind of consistent effort is no small feat — especially for anyone not based at altitude. The nearest competitor never got close: Kelley's margin of victory was more than nine minutes.

Tonja Del Gatto of Folsom, CA finished a clear and confident 2nd in 1:27:26, running a 17:29/mi pace. She held second place with authority, building a 22-minute gap back to 3rd-place Meg Fiandaca (43, 1:49:26, 21:53/mi). Fiandaca in turn finished nearly six minutes ahead of 4th-place Dawn Abney of Reno, NV, who came in at 1:55:25.

The most gripping stretch of the race played out among places 5 through 7. Jennifer Smith (48, Carson City, NV) came in 5th at 1:59:08, with Tracy Courtney (47, San Jose, CA) just 1:50 behind in 6th at 2:00:58, and Catherine Morgan (45, Manteca, CA) only nine more seconds back in 7th at 2:01:07. Three athletes, under two minutes — that's a genuine battle on a mountain course.

Alice Fan (42, Irvine, CA) rounded out the middle of the field in 8th at 2:28:06, followed by Bridget Erickson (40, Citrus Heights, CA) in 9th at 2:37:12. Jenny Thorsen (45, St. Charles, IL) completed all five miles in 3:03:29, finishing 10th and earning every second of that time on a course that demands respect at any pace.
