M30-39 Broken Arrow 5 Mile: Hurd holds off a charging Lefebure at the top

Brandon Hurd, at 39 — the oldest man on the podium — took the M30-39 title in 1:01:49, averaging 12:22 per mile across a course that climbs through thin air between 6,220 and 7,191 feet. That's no small feat on terrain where the altitude alone can turn strong legs into heavy ones, and the 17 mph wind and low 19% humidity added another layer of challenge. Hurd's margin was real but earned: Luke Lefebure, 32, pushed him the entire way and crossed in 1:02:36, just 47 seconds back.

James Precit (1:03:46, 3rd) and Nathan Spangler (1:04:32, 4th) kept the pressure on behind them — the top four finished within a window of less than three minutes, which on a technical high-altitude 5-miler speaks to how competitive the front of this field was. Aaron Bence then ran 1:07:33 for 5th, with a notable jump of nearly six minutes back to Michael Drumm in 6th at 1:13:09 — the field spread out considerably from there.

One of the more interesting storylines belongs to William Nguyen, who made the trip from Menlo Park and landed in the exact same position as 2024: 8th in the men's field, in 1:18:08. He was 79 seconds slower than his 1:16:49 last year, but the result was the same. At the other end of the leaderboard, Rohan Varty (2:04:18) and Siva Rajaraman (2:00:09) finished 16th and 15th respectively — completing a course that humbles plenty of runners — while Bracken Flynn (1:53:13) and Andres Vega (1:43:36) filled out the back half of a field that ranged nearly a full hour from first to last.
