Hunter Brignall, 24, of Seneca Falls, NY, turned this into a solo time trial almost from the gun. He led the men's standings wire-to-wire — 1st at every checkpoint — and his 5:15/mi average on a 75-degree, humid morning was a level above anyone else in the M20-24 field. For reference, runner-up Josh Baker averaged 5:30/mi; Brignall was running a full 15 seconds per mile faster. The 3:21 winning margin tells that story plainly.

Behind Brignall, the real drama unfolded in the chase pack. Baker, 22, of Ypsilanti, MI, was the strongest mover among them — sitting 6th at the opening checkpoint before surging to 3rd by 10K and holding it to the line in 1:12:10. Brock Denuyl of Marysville, MI finished 3rd in 1:13:45 after slipping from 2nd early to 4th, while Nate Bertman of Chagrin Falls, OH made the most compelling late move in the group. Starting 11th among men, Bertman worked his way into the top five and then uncorked the fastest men's split from 12.6 miles to the finish — edging Denuyl by just two seconds at the line, 1:13:47 to 1:13:45, for 4th. Thomas Nelson, also of Chagrin Falls, rounded out the top five in 1:14:57 (5:43/mi), followed by Bryce Weber (1:15:47) and Calvin Mcelvain (1:16:34) to complete a tight top seven.
