Jed Smith Half Marathon F40-49: Jerwers edges Shepard in a tight battle at the top

• Allison Jerwers (43, Sacramento) wins F40-49 in 1:57:44 — the only finisher in the group to break the two-hour mark, averaging 8:59/mi through the Sacramento fog.

Allison Jerwers controlled the race where it mattered most. She was positioned 7th among women out of the Out & Back, moved up to 4th by the midpoint, and though she settled back to 8th in the women's field by the finish, she had done enough early damage to hold off her F40-49 rivals. Her 6th-fastest women's split on the Out & Back→Lap 1 segment was the engine of her victory, and her 8:59/mi average held firm through the damp, foggy Sacramento morning.

Angela Shepard ran a remarkably parallel race — 6th among women through both the Out & Back and Lap 1 checkpoints, finishing 9th in the women's field at 1:58:29. She was right there the whole way, but Jerwers had built just enough of a cushion. The 45-second gap at the line tells the story: close, but not a chase. Fabiola Vargas rounded out the podium in 2:00:25, the only finisher in the group to run a negative-style arc, climbing from 15th among women at the first checkpoint all the way to 10th by the finish on the strength of the 8th-fastest women's split in that final segment.

Allyson Thomas (2:03:22) and Eydy Cazares (2:09:47) each made similar late moves, both advancing through the women's field on the Lap 1→Finish leg. Jenn Pancherei rounded out the top six in 2:10:11 — just 24 seconds behind Cazares — while Allison Harrington completed the course in 2:53:22 to claim 7th in the group.
