Men's 5K: Trojan Takes the Tape at the Capitol

Joseph Trojan, 26, of Minneapolis, owned this race from the first step. His 14:26 — a 4:39-per-mile clip — was good enough to lead the men's field all the way through, and he backed it up with the fastest closing split of anyone in the men's race. On a warm October morning at 69°F with 77% humidity, that kind of pace demands respect. Minnetonka's Titus Winders, 23, gave chase and never relented, finishing just 4 seconds behind in 14:30 with the 2nd-fastest closing split — a genuine push, but Trojan never looked in danger of losing it.

The gap widened meaningfully from there. Joseph Minor, 23, also of Minneapolis, rounded out the podium in 15:06 — 36 seconds off Winders and a full 40 seconds clear of 4th. Joshua Yeager, 26, slotted into 4th in 15:35, and Paul Muturi, 39 years old from Big Lake, was the top finisher over 35 with a sharp 16:43 (5:23/mi) in 5th — a standout performance for the age group.

One subplot worth noting: Brandon Polchow (18:41, 9th) and Anthony Schramm (19:08, 16th) both pulled double duty on the weekend, also finishing 7th and 8th respectively in the men's 10K — a genuine feat of mileage across Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend. And the headline from the back of the top 20: 11-year-old Benjamin Donaldson of Eden Prairie ran a 19:59 to finish 20th among 952 men. That's a 6:26-per-mile average — remarkable at any age, but especially at 11.
