Napa Valley Marathon F45-49: McGovern holds on, Steis storms home

• Tatyana McGovern won the F45-49 race in 3:06:37 (7:07/mi), holding 14th–15th among all women throughout and posting the 14th-fastest women's split on the 10K-to-half stretch.
• Tatyana Steis finished 2nd in 3:07:29 — but her closing leg (20M to finish) was the 10th-fastest women's split in that segment, the most aggressive late charge in the field.
• Margot Ridout claimed 3rd in 3:20:38, climbing from 50th to 31st among women across the second half — posting the 26th-fastest women's split from the half to mile 20.
• Katherine Debski ran the most dramatic arc in the field, sitting 95th among women at the 10K mark before surging to finish 5th in 3:27:37 with the 28th-fastest women's closing split.

Under cool, crisp Napa conditions — 42°F and a light breeze — the F45-49 race came down to a 52-second margin at the top. Tatyana McGovern, 49, of Tiburon ran a composed, consistent race, sitting 14th–15th among the women's field from the opening miles and never straying far from that position. Her 7:07/mi average was the standard everyone else was chasing, and she crossed in 3:06:37 to take the win.

The real drama unfolded behind her. Tatyana Steis, 48, of Arlington spent most of the race in the mid-20s among women, but her legs were saving something. Her 20M-to-finish split ranked 10th fastest among all women in the field — a scorching close that pulled her from 22nd to 17th among women and into 2nd place at 3:07:29. She made up significant ground on McGovern in those final miles, but the gap at the line was 52 seconds — close enough to be a story, not close enough to change the result.

Margot Ridout, 46, of Corte Madera ran a steady second-half build to claim 3rd in 3:20:38, climbing 19 places among women between the half and the finish. Naomi Gentle, 45, of Reno rounded out the top four in 3:23:11, while Katherine Debski, 45, of Belmont delivered the most eye-catching trajectory of the day — buried near 95th among women at 10K before reeling in competitors one by one to finish 5th in 3:27:37. Danielle Gault (6th, 3:31:20) and Katherine Loberg (7th, 3:37:43) completed a strong top seven in a 65-finisher field.
