He held 5th among men through the halfway point and never wavered, ultimately winning the M20-24 age group by more than seven minutes. His 6:31/mi average across 26.2 miles was the kind of performance that makes the rest of the field feel like they were racing on a different course.

Alex Proctor ran a smart, progressive race. Starting outside the top 20 among men, the 22-year-old from Maple Grove, Minnesota steadily worked his way forward through the second half, posting the 13th-fastest split among men from the halfway mark to 31K. He crossed in 2:58:21 — the only other man in the M20-24 group to break three hours — and took a comfortable 2nd place.

Jonathan Baudouin (3:03:18) rounded out the podium in 3rd, though his trajectory told a different story: he slipped from 16th to 25th among men across the race, suggesting the humidity took its toll as the miles mounted. Behind him, the battle for 4th was the closest contest of the day — Gentry and Fletcher ran nearly identical races, separated by a mere 8 seconds at the line after 26.2 miles, with Gentry claiming 4th in 3:13:33 and Fletcher settling for 5th in 3:13:41.
