San Francisco Marathon M60-64: Korze Runs Away with It

• David Korze wins in 3:09:51 (7:14/mi), more than 10 minutes clear of runner-up Charles Chen (3:20:16).

David Korze, 61, from Santiago, TX, turned in one of the dominant performances of the day. His 7:14/mi average across 26.2 miles on San Francisco's demanding course was a full 24 seconds per mile faster than anyone else in the field — and his 3:09:51 finish left second place more than ten minutes behind. His splits told the story of a controlled, confident effort: he moved steadily through the men's field from 188th at the first checkpoint all the way up to 126th by mile 24, holding that position to the line.

Charles Chen (3:20:16, 7:38/mi) ran a strong second, though he had to work for it — he was outside the top 350 men early on before reeling off a strong final stretch that included the 131st-fastest split among all runners on the 24 Miles–to–Finish segment. Arturo De La Riva (3rd, 3:23:34) and Pierre Martin (4th, 3:25:14) rounded out the podium, with Martin's gender place trending steadily backward from 214th to 329th — a sign that the field caught him as the miles wore on.

The race for fifth was a genuine three-way battle. Yamanaka, Huybrechts, and Morales Cervantes finished 5th through 7th in 3:37:01, 3:37:15, and 3:37:46 respectively — 45 seconds separating all three. Igor Ermilov (8th, 3:38:36) and Oungkyu Oh (9th, 3:39:24) weren't far behind, making miles 20 onward a genuine scrap for the middle of the podium. Further back, Cheng and Parren staged a photo finish at 15th and 16th, both clocking 3:57:34 — with Cheng holding the edge by the slimmest of margins.
