Behind Oraug, the race for the podium was a different story entirely. Meanwhile, Hiromasa Nishiyama (44, Zionsville, IN) held his position steadily all day to take 3rd in 3:02:30.

The real drama played out in the battle for 4th and 5th. Matus Martini (43, Monmouth, OR) and Joe Leineweber (41, Portland, OR) both came from deep in the men's field — Leineweber was as far back as 192nd among men at one checkpoint — and both surged hard over the closing miles.
