Alex Cocquyt, 22, from Redwood City, was the most aggressive mover in the field. He entered the race in 31st among men and chipped away checkpoint by checkpoint, cracking the top 20 men by the finish. His 7th-fastest men's split between miles 10 and 12 was the signature move of his race — but Conners had built just enough of a cushion that the 15-second gap at the line was decisive.

Eric Fan (1:18:10, 5:58/mi) claimed third after a similarly progressive race, climbing from 38th among men at the opening splits all the way to 22nd by the finish, with a strong 14th-fastest men's closing split. Vishal Lashkari told the opposite story: 4th in 1:18:55, he was inside the top 15 men in the early going but gradually slipped as the race wore on, a reminder that San Francisco's second half has a way of collecting its toll. Agustin Gomez De La Vega (1:20:14, 6:07/mi) rounded out the top five, also closing well with the 12th-fastest men's split on the final stretch.
