Alex Hudgins made the home crowd proud. The 43-year-old San Franciscan ran a controlled, commanding 1:17:00 at 5:52/mi — a margin that told the whole story. His race tracking showed genuine mid-race movement: he climbed from 19th to 13th among the men's field by the halfway point, then managed the back half strategically to finish well clear of the field. His 2M→4M split ranked 14th among women runners sharing the course — a benchmark that underscores just how sharp his early pace was.

James Timbrell, also a San Francisco local at 42, was the clear second-best story of the day. Running 1:20:11 (6:07/mi), he steadily worked his way through the men's field and saved some of his best running for the 6M→8M stretch, where his split ranked 24th among women on that segment — a sign of genuine mid-race strength. He crossed 3:11 behind Hudgins but well clear of the podium battle behind him.

That battle was genuinely compelling. Aoun (1:28:45, 6:46/mi), Purrer (1:29:16, 6:49/mi), and Escobar (1:29:44, 6:51/mi) ran virtually the entire race in close proximity. Aoun held the edge throughout, but Purrer — who tracked the men's field from 56th to 49th early before fading slightly — and Escobar, who slipped steadily from 57th to 90th in the men's standings across the second half, both finished within a minute of 3rd. Robert Spies rounded out the top six in 1:30:18 (6:53/mi), just 34 seconds further back.
