• Spots 5 and 6 were razor-close: Kunhuor Hak (1:35:44) and David Spargo (1:35:51) finished just 7 seconds apart.
• Brian Mellor and Buck Branum crossed in 1:53:34 — separated by only 0.35 seconds to settle 17th and 18th in a field of 79.

On a clear, mild March morning in West Sacramento — 55°F with a light 10 mph breeze — Darren Morgan of Fair Oaks ran a controlled and ultimately strong race to claim the M55-59 title. His 6:47/mi average held up across 13.1 miles, and his move through the men's field told the story: he was climbing steadily in the back half, surging from 103rd among men to 72nd and then 66th by the finish, posting the 42nd-fastest second-half split in the entire women's field as a benchmark of his closing strength.

Chris Guinnip of Roseville ran a similar pattern, working his way forward from 133rd among men early on to 74th by the finish — a genuine catch-up effort through the second half. His 6:50/mi average was meaningfully faster than the pace he'd need to close, but Morgan had just enough of a cushion built up that the 39-second gap held. Guinnip's late surge, reflected in the 44th-fastest Mile 11-to-finish split among women, was impressive — just not quite enough.

The bottom of the top 20 offered its own drama. Mellor and Branum were effectively inseparable at the line — 1:53:34 for both, split by just 0.35 seconds — in a field of 79 M55-59 finishers that stretched well beyond what's listed here.
