B.A.A. 10K F55-59: Caracoglia Claims the Age Group Crown in Boston's Heat

Jennifer Caracoglia of Derry, NH, ran a composed, controlled race to take the F55-59 title at the B.A.A. 10K. Sitting 159th among women at the first checkpoint, she moved steadily forward, reaching 139th by the 5K mark and holding firm at 141st by the finish — a patient, efficient effort at 7:32 per mile that no one in the age group could match. Her 132nd-fastest women's split on the 5K-to-8K stretch showed she still had something left when the heat was at its worst.

Carol Wheeler (47:25) and Evelyne Schenk (47:29) made the silver and bronze spots a genuine contest, separated by just four seconds after 6.2 miles in brutal conditions. Wheeler was still moving through the field on the final stretch — posting the 144th-fastest women's split from 8K to the finish — while Schenk was steady but couldn't quite close the gap. Susan Mosher had the most dramatic trajectory of the top five: starting the second half of the race outside the top 250 women, she reeled in competitor after competitor to finish 4th in 47:58, also posting the 139th-fastest women's split from 8K to the line.

Behind the podium, Maureen Pellegrini rounded out the top five in 49:37, with a noticeable gap back to Shengfang Jin in 6th at 50:49. The spread from 5th to 20th covered nearly seven minutes — a reminder of just how much 85°F heat and humidity can stretch a field across 10 kilometers of Boston streets.
