For context, the second-place finisher hadn't even cleared 10K by the time Cherono was done.

Behind her, the real competition was a tight three-way battle for the podium. Jing Zhang of Cazenovia ran a smart, progressive race — sitting 36th among women through 5K, moving to 32nd by 10K, and ultimately finishing 30th in the women's field at 59:54. The late-race story belonged to Lisa Cole and Emily Gunther.
