Desiree Berry of Mercer Island, WA, made a statement on the Sacramento roads, clocking 2:39:17 at 6:05/mi to win the F40-44 age group by a commanding 3 minutes and 25 seconds. She came through the 5K–10K stretch with the 16th-fastest women's split in the field, and while her position among the women drifted gradually from 21st at the 10K mark to 31st by the finish, her age-group rivals simply couldn't match her outright pace. It was a dominant, wire-to-wire performance.

Behind Berry, the race for 2nd was a genuine battle. Kimberly Hicks of Vista, CA, was the day's great mover — she entered the women's field around 153rd at 5K and steadily reeled in competitor after competitor, posting the 33rd-fastest women's split on the 40K-to-finish stretch to close in 2:42:42. Allison Drynan of Toronto came the other direction, launching hard (27th-fastest women's 5K–10K split) and holding on admirably, finishing in 2:42:46. Four seconds separated them at the line — Hicks earned 2nd, Drynan 3rd.

Crystal Harriss of Edwardsville, IL, ran a measured race to claim 4th in 2:44:48, posting the 48th-fastest women's Half-to-25K split and working her way through the middle of the women's field before settling in. Angela Moll of San Diego finished 5th in 2:45:16, remarkably consistent throughout — her position among the women barely shifted across the entire race — and added the 87th-fastest women's 40K-to-finish split to close things out. Karen Dunn (6th, 2:49:16) and Christy Burns (7th, 2:54:11) completed a strong top seven in a field where 567 women toed the line.
