• Aaron Anderson staged the most dramatic charge of the group, surging from roughly 307th among men at 5K all the way to 125th by the finish, landing 4th in 2:50:05.
• Seven finishers in M40-44 broke 2:55, and 20 broke 3:00 — a deep, competitive top end on a cold October morning in Arlington.

Tesfaye Wosene (Temecula, CA) was never far from the front. Tracking between 10th and 16th among all men throughout the race, he ran a measured, authoritative 2:33:10 at 5:51/mi — a margin of more than 11 minutes over the rest of M40-44. On a course that winds past the monuments of Washington D.C., organized by the U.S. Marine Corps and offering no prize money to anyone, Wosene's performance was its own reward.

Behind him, Christopher Ostoich (San Diego, CA) ran a steady race and saved his best for last, posting one of the 45th-fastest men's splits from 40K to the finish to lock up 2nd in 2:44:15. Israel Martínez González (Monterrey) was 3rd in 2:47:30, finding his best gear between 30K and 35K with the 93rd-fastest men's split on that segment. The gap from 2nd to 3rd was just over three minutes; from 3rd to 4th, another 2:35.

The most compelling journey through the field belonged to Aaron Anderson (Rockville, MD). Starting well back — around 307th among men at the 5K mark — he ran progressively faster as the miles accumulated, cracking the top 130 among men by the finish to take 4th in 2:50:05. Robert Robinson (Waukee, IA) told the opposite story: sitting comfortably around 110th among men early, he gradually ceded ground through the second half to finish 5th in 2:52:45 (6:35/mi). From 6th through 10th, Luis Ortiz, Daniel Tai, Andrew Spangenberg, Kevin Roach, and Jameson Penn were separated by just 1:35 across the line — a tight cluster capped by Roach and Penn sharing the same 2:55:18 finish time in 9th and 10th respectively.
