Rocket City Half Marathon F40-44: Kastner Dominates from Wire to Wire

• Kelley Kastner won the F40-44 group in 1:38:37 (7:31/mi), leading the women's field from start to finish and posting the 5th-fastest women's split on the 8M→Finish stretch.
• Linda Bowen held 4th among women through 8 miles before fading to 7th — still good enough for 2nd in F40-44 in 1:42:59, a gap of 4:22 back of Kastner.
• Emily Waite and Felicia Stevens ran remarkably consistent races, holding their women's field positions virtually unchanged from the 8-mile mark to the finish, landing 3rd and 4th in F40-44 in 1:44:11 and 1:45:34.
• The top-5 were separated by just 7:15 across 13.1 miles, while the field of 60 spanned from Kastner's 7:31/mi to finishers well past 10:30/mi.

Kelley Kastner of Saint Louis came to Huntsville and put on a masterclass in front-running. She sat at the top of the women's field through 8 miles and never let go, finishing in 1:38:37 at a 7:31-per-mile clip — a margin of over four minutes on her nearest F40-44 rival. Her 5th-fastest women's split on the back half of the course signals she wasn't just coasting to the line; she was still racing it.

Linda Bowen made things interesting through 8 miles, sitting 4th among all women before the final stretch. The Birmingham runner ultimately slipped to 7th in the women's field by the finish, but her 1:42:59 — a 7:51/mi effort — was more than enough to claim 2nd in F40-44. Fellow Birmingham runner Emily Waite rounded out the podium in 1:44:11, her 13th-place women's standing never wavering from the 8-mile checkpoint onward — a sign of disciplined, even pacing.

The battle for 4th and 5th was the tightest of the day at the front of the F40-44 group. Felicia Stevens of Ashland, KY crossed in 1:45:34, with Andrea Renegar of Rockvale, TN just 18 seconds behind in 1:45:52 — Renegar actually nudged up one spot in the women's field over the final miles, but couldn't quite reel in Stevens. Beyond the top five, the field spread out considerably, with 60 women ultimately finishing across a wide range of paces on a mild December afternoon in Huntsville.
