Behind him, Michael Niederhausen (48, Fayetteville GA) and Scotty Aycock (48, Florence AL) ran their own tight contest for the podium. Niederhausen edged Aycock by 1:09, running 6:33/mi to Aycock's 6:38/mi, but Aycock's closing split was actually sharper — he posted the 11th-fastest men's split on the 8M-to-finish segment while Niederhausen ranked 14th on the same stretch. The gap between them held, but Aycock was closing the door.

The rest of the M45-49 field spread out considerably from there. Matt Casiano (4th, 1:31:23) finished nearly five minutes behind the podium, and Alasdair Marshall (5th, 1:37:17) another six back. Scott Sandlin and Nick Langmesser — both 45, both from the northern Alabama area — rounded out the top seven at 1:50:44 and 1:52:45 respectively, leading a mid-pack cluster where just under five minutes separated 6th from 12th. All told, 28 men finished the M45-49 group on a solid December morning in Huntsville.
