Santa Rosa 10K: Sutherland dominates the F50-59 field in the rain

Under cool, drizzly skies in Santa Rosa, Angela Sutherland put the F50-59 race to bed early. Her 52:34 at 8:28/mi wasn't just a win — it was a statement, landing more than two minutes ahead of second place in a 39-woman field. Fanny Peregrina-Abel ran a composed 54:35 (8:47/mi) to claim the silver, and Odiza Abellana, making the trip up from Huntington Beach, finished 3rd in 56:27 (9:05/mi). The gap from Sutherland to the podium was real; the gap from the podium to the rest was equally clear, with 4th-place Alessandra Diana — a Santa Rosa local — coming home in 58:43.

The most entertaining stretch of the race unfolded between 6th and 9th. Bianca Toscano (1:01:09), Teri Woodson (1:01:18), Jenny Bent (1:01:25), and Bonnie Savage (1:01:41) were essentially racing as a pack, with just 32 seconds covering all four. Woodson and Bent, separated by seven seconds, and Savage close behind at 1:01:41, made for a genuine battle in that middle tier of the field.

Further back, the race delivered another tight moment: Michelle Thomson, the oldest finisher in the top 20 at 59, crossed in 1:05:58, with Kim Vrijen just two seconds behind at 1:06:00 for 13th. Barbara Weimer followed in 14th at 1:06:16, keeping that cluster of three within 18 seconds. Franchesca Trudeau, another 59-year-old, wrapped up the listed finishers in 20th at 1:10:24 — a reminder that the F50-59 field had plenty of fight from front to back across all 39 runners.
