M30-39: Rosenblatt Runs Away from a Deep Field at Tahoe

• Connor Rosenblatt, 10:02:10 (9:41/mi) — won the M30-39 field and held the men's overall lead for the bulk of the race, also posting the fastest split on the Kick Ash→Snow Valley Peak segment.
• Ivan Estrella closed 32:50 back at 10:35:00 — spent the race in second among the men and matched Rosenblatt's aggression on Snow Valley Peak→Hobart with the fastest split on that leg.
• Peter Nocka (11:47:18) edged Samuel Johnmeyer (11:58:09) to claim third — Nocka's 5th-fastest Waterfall→Finish split helped him hold the gap; 51 seconds separated them at the line.
• Isaiah Mitchell (13:03:43) and Robert Dorrigan (13:03:54) finished 7th and 8th — 11 seconds apart after more than 13 hours on the course above 9,000 feet.

Connor Rosenblatt, 31, out of Davis, CA, turned in one of the sharpest performances in the M30-39 field on a course that climbs to over 9,000 feet on the Sierra Nevada ridgeline. Running at a 9:41/mi average — a demanding clip at this altitude — he moved to the front of the men's field by the second checkpoint and never truly relinquished it, crossing in 10:02:10. His fastest split on the Kick Ash→Snow Valley Peak segment underscored where he made his race: on the climbs, where thin air separates those who've prepared from those who haven't.

Ivan Estrella, 30, from Tucson, AZ, was Rosenblatt's closest pursuer all day, tracking him through the men's top three from the second checkpoint onward. Estrella's fastest split on Snow Valley Peak→Hobart showed he had genuine pace on technical terrain — but Rosenblatt had built enough of a cushion by then that the 32:50 final gap held firm. Estrella's 10:35:00 finish at 10:13/mi was a strong run in its own right against a 46-man field.

The battle for the podium's third step was worth watching. Peter Nocka, 32, from South Lake Tahoe — home turf advantage on a course that rewards course knowledge — came in at 11:47:18, with a 5th-fastest Waterfall→Finish split helping him pull away late. Samuel Johnmeyer, 38, from Duluth, MN, had been the more aggressive mover mid-race, climbing as high as 6th in the men's field, but faded slightly over the final stretch to finish 4th in 11:58:09.

Further back, the race thinned into a series of hard-fought individual efforts across rugged Sierra terrain. Michael Dimond (12:27:55, 5th) and Patrick O'Connor (12:47:28, 6th) — both from Auburn, CA — rounded out the top six, while the near-identical clocks of Isaiah Mitchell and Robert Dorrigan made for one of the day's tightest finishes: 11 seconds across 13-plus hours of racing at altitude.
