• Susan Dong (2nd, 50:35) and Mattia Schoevano (3rd, 51:09) were separated by just 34 seconds, with Schoevano running the 43rd-fastest women's 5K→Finish split to Dong's 44th — a genuine catch-up after the halfway mark.
• Layla Smith (4th, 51:15) crossed just 6 seconds behind Schoevano but ran a slower second half (58th-fastest women's split), meaning she was running on fumes as Schoevano reeled her in.
• 158 women aged 20–29 finished the race; the top 20 ranged from Pursley's 43:18 down to Anna Lunsford's 59:37 (9:36/mi).

Sophia Pursley, just 20 years old out of Aptos, CA, turned the F20-29 field into a solo time trial. Her 43:18 at 6:58/mi pace was in a different zip code from the rest of the field — and she earned it on both halves of the course, moving from 15th to 13th among all women in the back half with the 13th-fastest women's 5K→Finish split in the entire race. What makes this even more impressive: Pursley had already raced the Sunday 5K earlier in the weekend, finishing 2nd among all women in that event. Backing up a podium 5K performance with a dominant 10K win is one of the weekend's best double-race stories.

Behind her, the real drama played out between 2nd and 4th. Mattia Schoevano (23, Alameda) was sitting 57th among women at the halfway point and ran the 43rd-fastest women's second-half split to finish 3rd in 51:09 — catching Susan Dong (22, Northvale), who had been running 48th among women at the midpoint and held on for 2nd in 50:35 with the 44th-fastest women's split. Schoevano closed the gap but couldn't quite overturn Dong's early cushion. Meanwhile, Layla Smith (4th, 51:15) faded slightly in the second half — her 58th-fastest women's split tells the story — and Schoevano slipped past her in the final 5K.

Further back, Hannah Aguilar (6th, 52:03) and Isabel Filipek (7th, 52:40) rounded out a tightly packed middle tier, with Charlotte Freeborn (8th, 53:48) and Yi Lam Law (9th, 53:49) separated by a single second at the line. The 60°F morning with a 15 mph wind off the Bay made for honest racing conditions — fast enough for the leaders, honest enough for everyone else.
