Aaron Smith set the tone from the gun and never let go. Running a 7:19/mi average through San Francisco's famously breezy and rolling streets — 60°F with a 15 mph wind off the bay — he built a gap that Robert Cable, despite a solid 7:22/mi effort, couldn't close. Twenty seconds separated them at the line: close enough to keep it interesting, but Smith was never truly threatened. The mid-pack told its own story of attrition and grit. Six men finished between 52:34 and 52:59 — Andrew Wee (6th), Jimmy Toh (7th, traveling from Singapore), Holton Lee (8th), and Bryan Walker (9th) all within 25 seconds of each other, with Junichi Takeuchi (10th, 54:37) and Lev Volosskiy (11th, 54:45) just behind.
