Women's NYC Half: Obiri Controls from the Gun, Keith Storms the Podium

Hellen Obiri never relinquished the lead. The 36-year-old from Boulder held 1st through every checkpoint, and her fastest women's split from 5K to 10K made clear this wasn't a race of patience — it was a race of control. She crossed in 1:06:33 at 5:05/mi, nearly 40 seconds clear of 2nd place.

Behind her, the real drama played out in the chase pack. Sharon Lokedi (1:07:10, 5:07/mi) ran a measured race, sitting 3rd through the first three checkpoints before moving to 2nd after 15K and holding it to the line. But Megan Keith was the story of the race's middle miles. The 23-year-old from Edinburgh entered the 10K checkpoint in 5th, then posted the 2nd-fastest women's split from 10K to 15K to move to 4th, and kept coming — finishing 3rd in 1:07:13. She ran Lokedi down to within three seconds but couldn't quite close the gap, with Lokedi's stronger 15K-to-20K split (2nd-fastest among women) ultimately holding the difference.

Diane Van Es (4th, 1:08:21) and Fentaye Belayneh (5th, 1:08:22) finished within one second of each other, separated only by the timing chip. Emily Sisson (6th, 1:09:06) led the next cluster, with Amanda Vestri (7th, 1:09:22), Annie Frisbie (8th, 1:09:25), Susanna Sullivan (9th, 1:09:38), and Emily Venters (10th, 1:09:46) all finishing within 40 seconds of each other on a crisp 40°F morning through Prospect Park and into Central Park.
