He entered the race ranked 64th among men at the first checkpoint — hardly a hint of what was coming — but by the second checkpoint he had already climbed to 2nd, and by the third he had seized the lead among men and never relinquished it. He sealed his dominance with the fastest men's split on the Coldwater→Norway Pass segment, crossing the finish in 47:21:11, a margin so vast over the rest of his M30-39 peers that the race was effectively a solo effort through the old-growth forests and lava fields of the Cascades.

Behind Kubala, the real drama was a tale of two climbers. Dave Walker-Blair, 36, from Minehead, Somerset, was methodical — 21st among men early, 16th, 9th, grinding forward checkpoint by checkpoint. His fastest men's split on the Klickitat→Twin Sisters segment was the engine of that charge, and he closed in 59:56:50 for 2nd. Thomas Atkinson, 34, from Preston, took an even wilder trajectory: buried 168th among men after the opening leg, he rocketed to 8th by the second checkpoint, eventually settling into 6th among men and 3rd in M30-39 at 62:58:40, backed by the 2nd-fastest men's split on Blue Lake→Windy Ridge.

Rolando Mendoza, 36, from Ontario, CA, held a steady line through the race — never outside the top 15 among men from the second checkpoint onward — to finish 4th in 70:05:36. Zachary Wykoff, 31, from Columbus, OH, showed flashes of speed (5th-fastest men's split on Norway Pass→Elk) but faded from 7th among men at the second checkpoint to 15th by the finish, rounding out the top 5 in M30-39 at 73:54:53. Brady Winkles (77:01:11), Aaron Smith (78:15:03), and Curtis Howell (79:54:09) followed in 6th through 8th, with David Boston (80:12:15) and David Park (80:43:38) completing the top 10.
