Cold, damp conditions — 37°F and 87% humidity at the start — greeted the M30-34 field on race morning in Napa, but Amanuel Tikue of Oakland made the weather irrelevant. His 1:03:34 at 4:51 per mile was something else entirely: a gap of nearly eight minutes to second place, backed by the fastest men's split on the 6.9-mile closing stretch. He led among all men from start to finish and never relinquished it.

Behind him, the real drama played out in the fight for 2nd and 3rd. Tony Marti of Richmond held his position among the men throughout, finishing in 1:11:09 with the 8th-fastest closing split in the men's field. Dmitry Kislyuk of San Francisco ran the 9th-fastest closing split — just a tick behind Marti's pace — and moved from 10th to 9th among the men in the second half, closing in 1:12:36 for 3rd in M30-34. That 87-second gap between them at the line reflects a genuine difference in pace, even if both ran strong finishes. Collin Jarvis of El Cerrito crossed 4th in 1:13:07 but faded one spot among the men on the back half, his 13th-fastest closing split not quite enough to hold off Kislyuk.

Jamie Woodbury of San Francisco rounded out the top five in 1:16:51 (5:52/mi), holding 16th among the men throughout and posting the 16th-fastest closing split — steady and consistent all the way in. Mike Roth (Berkeley, 6th, 1:17:05) and Steven Anderson (Palo Alto, 7th, 1:18:10) kept the competition tight just outside the top five, with only 65 seconds separating 5th through 7th place. In a field of 121, that kind of depth makes Tikue's eight-minute winning margin all the more striking.
