Right behind her, Laura Schmitt of Kentfield was patient early, sitting around 269th among women through the first segment, before unleashing one of the stronger closing legs in the field — the 201st-fastest women's split from 6.9M to the finish — to land third in 1:46:56.

Maryann Nelson of Napa held fourth in 1:50:27, running 8:26/mi but fading slightly on the back half, sliding from 246th to 277th among women over the final miles. Sheri Jensen (2:04:29), Annette Downing (2:07:35), Kathy McGrath (2:07:43), and Kathleen Pelkan (2:08:11) rounded out a tight cluster from sixth through ninth, separated by just 36 seconds across four finishers.
