Umair Ansari of La Jolla made it look manageable. He sat 19th among men at the opening checkpoint, worked his way through the pack across the middle miles, and then unleashed a closing leg that ranked 8th-fastest on the 24 Miles→Finish segment in the entire field. He crossed in 2:46:12 at 6:20/mi — a winning margin of more than eight minutes over the rest of M40-44.

Joe Flesher (Sacramento) came out aggressive, posting the 27th-fastest early split from 2.2 to 5.7 miles in the field and moving up from 39th to 29th among men by that checkpoint. He held together well enough to claim 2nd in 2:54:24, though the gap to Ansari was never really in question. Marino Morillo F, racing on home soil in San Francisco, rounded out the podium in 3:01:47 (6:56/mi), with his strongest relative segment coming between miles 14.95 and 18.
