SF Marathon 10K — F20-24: Yip Runs Away With It

• Madeleine Yip won the F20-24 race in 41:55 (6:45/mi), finishing 2:38 ahead of runner-up Caroline Brossart — a commanding margin in a 150-runner field.
• Caroline Brossart (2nd, 44:33) arrived at Sunday's 10K having already raced the weekend's Saturday 5K, where she finished 4th among women — a genuine two-race effort across the festival.
• Places 3 through 5 were decided in a tight 1:46 window: Jasmine He 3rd (46:36), Mónica Delgado 4th (47:11), Sophia Gigliotti 5th (48:22).
• The back half of the top 10 bunched even tighter — Anna Boonyanit (7th, 49:50), Haley Silva (8th, 50:04), Hannah Raczkowski (9th, 50:10), and Esmeralda Ayala (10th, 50:36) all finished within 46 seconds of each other.

Madeleine Yip, 23, from Cupertino, made this one look straightforward. Her 6:45/mi average was a full 25 seconds per mile faster than Brossart's 7:10/mi, and that gap only compounded over 6.2 miles. By the finish, nearly three minutes of clear air separated first from second — this was a wire-to-wire statement in a field of 150.

Brossart's silver medal deserves its own footnote. The San Francisco local didn't just show up for Sunday's 10K — she'd already raced the Saturday 5K, placing 4th among women in that event. Backing up a competitive 5K performance with a runner-up finish in the 10K the following day is the kind of double that takes real range, and her 44:33 at 7:10/mi held off Oakland's Jasmine He (46:36, 7:30/mi) by more than two minutes.

The battle for the podium's third step was the race's most compelling subplot. He's 46:36 gave her a 35-second cushion over Delgado (47:11, 7:36/mi), who in turn held off Gigliotti (48:22, 7:47/mi) by another 71 seconds. Three athletes, three distinct paces, packed into under two minutes of racing.

Further back, the field tightened considerably. Seven finishers — from Boonyanit's 7th (49:50) through Karissa Yau's 14th (51:19) — were separated by just 1:29, a testament to how competitive the middle of this F20-24 field was on a cool, overcast morning along the San Francisco waterfront.
